Carbon Black Upcycling from
End-of-Life Tires (ELTs)

ECOR Carbon Pvt. Ltd., a subsidiary of ECOR Greentech, utilizes advanced technologies to upcycle pyrolytic carbon black char (CBp) from end-of-life tires (ELTs) into high-value, near-grade virgin carbon black (rCB). By adopting near-green processes, ECOR Carbon minimizes waste, conserves natural resources, and delivers versatile material solutions for diversified industrial applications.

KEY PROCESS

Upcycling
Pyrolytic carbon black (CBp), obtained from end-of-life tire pyrolysis, is upgraded through an advanced closed-loop refining process to achieve near-virgin quality recovered carbon black (rCB). This approach strengthens material circularity by recovering valuable components such as carbon, silica, and zinc—reducing reliance on virgin resources while significantly lowering carbon emissions.

Through further advanced processing, recovered carbon black (rCB) can be transformed into high-value products including tire-grade carbon black (such as N220, N330, N550), activated carbon, porous graphene, pharmaceutical-grade carbon black, and ink and paint-grade carbon. These materials serve a wide range of industries, supporting applications in energy storage, advanced filtration, inks, coatings, tire manufacturing, and high-performance industrial processes—driving a more sustainable and circular industrial ecosystem.

IMPACT AND BENEFITS

Environmental Sustainability:
Reduces the need for new mining and conserves valuable materials.

Resource Efficiency:
Repurposing CBp minimizes the demand for virgin carbon black, reduces environmental degradation associated with extraction activities, and supports resource conservation.

Economic Development:
The availability of sustainable, upcycled products creates economic opportunities, reduces material costs, and encourages innovation across energy manufacturing, and environmental industries.

Employment Opportunities:
Establishing upcycling operations generates new jobs in facility management, research, product innovation and development, thus impacting local economies and promoting a robust green economy.

PRODUCTS

Recovered carbon Black (rCB):
High quality upgraded CBp with purity of ≥99% suitable for tire manufacturing and rubber industries. It significantly reduces reliance on new materials, promoting sustainability and resource efficiency.

Silica Derivatives (SiO₂-Based Products):
Silica recovered from pyrolytic char is refined into high-value industrial-grade material with excellent thermal stability and surface properties. It finds applications in rubber, construction, and coatings, while enhancing material recovery and supporting a circular, sustainable process.

Zinc Derivatives:
Zinc recovered from pyrolytic char is refined into high-purity zinc compounds suitable for industrial applications. It is widely used in rubber processing, galvanization, and chemical industries, contributing to additional revenue streams while improving overall resource recovery and circularity.

CONTRIBUTION TO A CIRCULAR ECONOMY

ECOR’s carbon black upcycling initiative exemplifies the principles of the circular economy by converting ELTs into valuable industrial resources. By closing material loops, ECOR actively contributes to sustainability, resource efficiency, and reduced ecological impact, thereby supporting industries in achieving their sustainability and net-zero objectives.
